How we work
howmanyinches gives two things: snow totals by town, and exact answers to inch conversions and heights.
Numbers first, words second
Every figure on the site is calculated by our own code: snow values are read from the NOAA grids listed on the Sources page, and conversions come from the legal definition of the inch. The short explanations around the numbers are drafted with help from AI writing tools and are not a source of numbers.
Checks before and after publishing
Before a page goes live, automated tests build it and look for broken links, missing data and layout problems. The snow data job also checks each NOAA file before it replaces the previous one. Every week someone on our team reads a sample of the newest pages, corrects what is wrong and changes the way later pages are written if needed.
Reporting an error
Use the Contact page. When a mistake is confirmed we fix it and update the date on that page.
