How to read these totals
Each number is new snowfall, not the depth of snow on the ground. A town can show 2 inches of new snow while older snow underneath makes the pack much deeper.
The analysis estimates every grid cell, including towns with no observer nearby. Mountain towns can differ from the valley a few miles away, so read numbers near mountains with care.

Questions people ask
Where do these numbers come from?
From the National Snowfall Analysis of NOAA's National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center (NOHRSC). It blends snow reports from observers with radar-based precipitation estimates and weather model ratios on a grid of cells a few miles across. We read the cell under each town.
How often does the page change?
NOHRSC publishes a new analysis twice a day, for 7 am and 7 pm Eastern time (12 and 00 UTC). Our server checks every 30 minutes and this page shows the newest one it has.
Why is my own measurement different?
Snow depth changes a lot over a few blocks, with wind, melting and elevation. The analysis is a smoothed estimate for a grid cell, not a ruler in your yard. Treat it as a good guide, not an exact reading.
What counts as "today"?
The 24-hour window ends at the analysis time shown at the top of the page. A morning analysis covers roughly the previous morning to this morning.
